In-House Reviews of Protein Powders Supplements:

ss-ap2.jpgSix Star Advanced Protein is marketed to help fuel your body for daily activities, including bodybuilding and exercising. They recommend consuming about one gram of protein per pound of bodyweight. This will encourage lean muscle growth and muscle recovery. The formula has 97% whey protein isolate and glutamine blend, with essential fatty acids from flaxseed and borage oil.
While some supplements these days fill their products with low quality and low-grade ingredients, this isn’t the case for Six Star body fuel. These supplements are created using only the purest scientifically tested ingredients on the market. It’s ingredients consist of whey protein concentrate, whey protein isolate, cocoa powder, artificial flavor, partially hyrolyzed whey protein, borage oil, flaxseed oil, sucralose, acesulfame potassium.

Their price is pretty reasonable, with a bottle containing 34 servings and costing less than $30. Sometimes it’s rare to find supplements using quality ingredients for low prices. For your money, you can choose from supplements tasting like Fruit Punch, Chocolate, or Vanilla just to name a few.

casein.jpgLast month I finally bit the bullet and picked up some casein protein to take before bed. The one I bought was Reflex Micellar Casein. From the research I did, Reflex Micellar Casein was the one most people were recommending and was the cheapest in price (only by a few dollars, but a few dollars is a few dollars!).

Optimum nutrition whey

Intro: Out of all the protein powders I’ve tasted (and I’ve tasted a lot!) I’d have to say Optimum Nutrition’s 100% gold standard whey is in the top 3. It was smooth, easy to drink, especially when I mixed it with dextrose for my post workout shake. So top marks there.

Ingredients: As far as what’s in it, I’d say it slightly above average when compared with other WPIs (whey protein isolates). It contains around 95% pure whey protein with only a few grams of fat (a trace of trans-fats). Total carbs is also very low, which makes it a good choice for weight loss or using as a meal replacement.

Value for money: top marks on price for ON gold standard whey. From the sources I checked (online and in-store), it was always just that bit cheaper than the other major brands.

Conclusion: One of my favorite whey protein products. Well rounded, good nutritional content and good value for money. I’d recommend it for bodybuilders, sports and for people trying to lose weight.
