After the popularity of our Promax protein bar review, I thought it was about time I reviewed another bar. This week I’m reviewing the Detour Bar. These Detour Bars have won awards for their taste, so I was keen to try them out.
I ordered a multi-flavor pack. Here are the flavors I tried:
- Chocolate Peanut Butter
- Caramel Peanut
- Chocolate Caramel
- Peanut Butter & Jelly
Nutritional Content:
Before I get into the tastes of each bar, let’s have a quick look at the nutritional information for Detour Bars. You can see I have posted the nutritional information up on the right. I have posted the nutritional information for 85g bars, which is what I ordered.
You can see that each bar has 370 calories, 30g of protein, 32g of carbohydrate and 13g of fat. That’s P/C/F ratio of 30/40/30. Sugar content per bar is 15g, which is considerably lower than a lot of other bars which can contain up to 40g of sugars! That’s a 50/50 simple and complex carb mix, not bad.
Taste & texture:
Now let’s get onto the taste and texture! I’ll go through each flavor individually.
Chocolate Peanut Butter: Chocolate and peanut butter go hand in hand, and I’ve got to say this was my favorite flavor by far! The texture was not dry, but crunchy and full of flavor. It felt like I was eating a candy bar!
Caramel Peanut: The texture was different with this bar, it was more “gooey” with the caramel and peanut flavor. It had pieces of nuts inside, which really topped off the taste.
Chocolate Caramel: Although this flavor was good, it was a bit too rich for my liking. The chocolate and caramel were a bit overwhelming. The texture was good.
Peanut Butter & Jelly: This was my wild card choice. I chose this flavor becuase it was a bit different to other flavors, both of the Detour bar and other protein bars. I was pleasantly surprised, it worked for me. It wouldn’t be my first choice, but a good flavor to mix it up a bit!
Cost:
I bought my 12 pack for $25 on the web. That’s just over $2 per 85g bar. Not bad. There are some cheaper bars around, but they’re smaller bars (<75g).
Overall:
I like em’. I’m going to give them a 9/10. If you’re thinking of getting some protein bars I’d give these a shot. If you have tried Detour Bars, or have any questions, leave them in the comments at the bottom of this page. Thanks!

I gotta agree with you…they do taste good. Protein bars have come a long way, they all used to taste like sh*i!! Promax bars are also good tasting, but the texture is to dry and flaky
Where may I purchase Detoure Bars in the Provo/Orem, Utah area?
