You may have heard of “insulin manipulation” among hardcore body builders or elite athletes. The goal of this is to shuttle more nutrients into the muscles. This is why, for example, many post workout beverages contain high amounts of refined sugar (by any of several names, but it’s still sugar).
The muscles don’t need that sugar; other carbohydrate sources are healthier for you. The reason for the sugar is to give you an insulin spike. But it’s timed to coincide with when your muscles are in uptake mode. This is a crude way to manipulate insulin, and the long-term health consequences can be severe.
Another way is an insulin injection. As with sugar, the long-term health consequences can be severe. Additionally, the short-term health consequences can be severe–as in dead. Or blind, or requiring the amputation of a limb. Generally speaking, amputating your limbs isn’t a goal of most body builders.
The problems with sugar and direct insulin injection are exactly why LG Sciences developed SLIN. It’s billed as an “insulin potentiator,” which basically means it stimulates an insulin spike from your own pancreas rather than from a needle.
If your body doesn’t want to make insulin, it won’t. So, SLIN takes you to your genetic potential and stops there. The same is true of sugar, which is kind of a problem when using sugar for this purpose. It is possible to ingest more sugar than your body can safely handle, thus setting you up for adult onset diabetes. SLIN solves this problem. So, it’s safer than the sugar that is on the shelf at your local supermarket.
