promax-protein-bars.jpgOver the next two months I’m going to be reviewing a whole range of protein bars! We’ve tested 20 different protein bars! This week we’ll be reviewing one of the most popular protein bars on the market, the Promax Protein Bar.

In the review I’ll look at taste/texture, price and the ingredients.

Promax Protein Bar Review:

pronut.jpgIngredients: Promax Protein Bars have a well rounded nutritional makeup. I have posted the label (right) for a complete run down on what’s in them. The protein used for this bar is the same protein formula used in Promax’s whey protein powder supplements.

Each bar comes in at around 280 calories, with 50 calories coming from fat. This is about average with other protein/carbohydrate bars in the same class.

Taste & Texture: There were so many flavors available, so I tried 3 that took my fancy. They were black forest cake, choc mint and honey peanut. All 3 tasted delicious! I have tried a lot of protein bars, and I would probably put Promax’s protein bar in the top 5. Of the 3 flavors I tried, black forest cake was the best. Here’s the list of all the flavors available:

  • Cookies ‘n Cream
  • Double Fudge Brownie
  • Nutty Butter Crisp
  • Black Forest Cake
  • Chocolate Peanut Crunch
  • Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
  • Chocolate Mint
  • Lemon Bar
  • Honey Peanut

The texture of the bar set it apart from many others I had tried. Protein bars tend to be dry and crumbly, the Promax bar was more like a candy bar than a protein bar.

Price: You can pick up Promax protein bars for around $15-$18 for a box of 12. That works out at around $1-$1.50 per bar, which is not bad considering the main reason why you’d use them is to replace a meal or for a snack.

When To Use It: This type of protein bar is ideal for meal replacements and snacks. Fast acting proteins means they made ideal breakfast bars when you need fast absorbing nutrients after a long time without food (sleep).

Conclusion: Would I recommend it? Yes. I’m a big fan of protein bars overall, I think that in our busy lifestyles there are too many bad food temptations around, and that carrying a few bars on you is an easy way to get a well rounded nutritional snack in.

I’ll be posting more protein bar reviews soon so stay tuned!
